| Rob, his wife Camille, and their daughters. |
Rob recently said in an article in South Jersey magazine that "I would rather go to Wawa and eat a sandwich with Camille than go to a fancy restaurant with anyone else." Rob and Camille met in 1986 when he was teaching at Rutgers Law School. The two had a long but short courtship. Camille, who lost a husband in a car accident and a second husband to cancer, did not really get to know Rob until several years later while the two were working together on a complex litigation matter to save the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. At that time, Camille was an attorney at the Dilworth Paxson law firm in Philadelphia. "She’s one of the greatest lawyers I have ever worked with,” Rob will tell you.
During the Shipyard case, Rob and Camille became close friends from about 1990 until 1992. In June of 1993, Rob and Camille were basically “fixed-up” by Rob’s campaign staffers who decided that the couple belonged together. Faking a raffle “date with the Congressman” at an American Cancer Society Event, the staffers told Camille that she had won a date with Rob. Realizing that the staffers were trying to fix them up, Camille initially ignored their attempts to schedule the date. When Rob spoke to her about the “date,” and learned of his staffers’ deception, he quickly told Camille, “When I find out who did this…I’m going to give them a raise, will you go.” They were married less than five months later. They had technically known each other for more than 7 years and were best of friends. “Marrying your best friend, makes everything else in life easy. We love each other, unconditionally,” Rob says with a grin.
Rob and Camille have two daughters. Jacquelyn, who was born on Christmas Eve and is 15 years old, and Josie, who was born October 28 and is 13 years old. Jacquelyn, a nationally ranked athlete, is a student at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ. Josie is an aspiring young actress, who has appeared in numerous professional shows and movies, and has toured with national musicals. Both girls are extremely active in fighting bullying in the schools.
Extra support for the extremely busy family comes in the nature of the family’s own “live-in” guardian angel, Camille’s mother, Phyllis Wolf. Since Camille’s father, Alan, died in 1995, the family has been blessed by Camille’s mother agreeing to live with them and help them with the girls.
The Andrews’ family also has two Siamese cats, Halo and Cuppie.
As recently noted in the South Jersey Magazine, “The household hours are long and often late, with dinner sometimes waiting until 9:30 pm. If Rob is on the "early train" from Washington. Many "conversations" are via e-mail, which is obviously not ideal, but sometimes the only way this incredibly busy couple can connect. But there’s a deep, strong core that both Camille and Rob embrace. When they married, Rob presented Camille with a locket he’d designed for her, one that she always wears. There are two parallel lines on the locket signifying that for some time, their paths and lives were apart. Then the lines merge with the word "Forever." And for Camille and Rob Andrews, that says it all.”
Rob is honored to be serving in his tenth term in the United States Congress. The Andrews currently reside in Haddon Heights, NJ. He travels almost daily back and forth from Washington D.C. to the District to stay in touch with his constituents in New Jersey, and to keep his roots at home. He believes that if you start every day with your feet firmly planted in the problems of real New Jerseyans and solve at least one problem, you will always remember the responsibility, honor, and privilege that has been entrusted to you by the people of this great State.
